OCSW Turing, Tenerife: An Unforgettable Spanish Immersion!

What an incredible two weeks it was for our group of Spanish learners in beautiful Tenerife! As their time on that stunning island came to a close, let's take a moment to reflect on the amazing experiences they had, the new skills they gained, and the memories everyone created.

From the moment they arrived, everyone embraced the challenge of speaking Spanish, not just in the classroom, but out and about, truly immersing themselves in the local culture. It was wondering to witness them confidently ordering "café con leche, ordering a range of food and drinks" asking for directions, and engaging in lively conversations with locals. This dedication to practicing outside of their comfort zone is exactly how real language learning happens, and they should all be incredibly proud of their progress!

One of the highlights for many was undoubtedly the adventure to Mount Teide. Standing on that magnificent volcanic landscape, taking in the panoramic views, was an awe-inspiring experience. It’s not every day you get to be above the clouds! And then there was the dolphin and whale watching trip, a truly magical experience seeing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. The joy and wonder on everyone's faces were truly priceless.  For many this was the highlight of the trip!

Loro Parque was another fantastic day out, offering a chance to see incredible flora and fauna from around the world, all while continuing to practice their Spanish as they navigated the park. Speaking of flora and fauna, Puerto de la Cruz truly charmed everyone with its lush gardens and vibrant plant life, providing a beautiful backdrop for the two weeks.

And let's not forget the food! Everyone was adventurous, tasting a range of delicious local foods, from papas arrugadas with mojo sauce to fresh seafood. Sharing those meals together was a wonderful way to connect and experience the true flavours of Tenerife.

Beyond the excursions and the delicious food, we witnessed something truly special: the formation of new friendships. They supported each other, laughed together, and faced new challenges side-by-side. It takes courage to travel to a new country, learn a new language, and step outside your usual routine, and each of them pushed your boundaries and faced fears, whether it was ordering in Spanish for the first time or trying a new activities such as Yoga on the Beach, overcoming water fears and trying out a Spa. This kind of personal growth is just as valuable as the language skills they acquired.

As they headed home, they weren't just taking back a better grasp of Spanish, but also a wealth of unforgettable memories, new friendships, and a stronger sense of confidence. We now many of the group have continued practicing  Spanish, sparking that adventurous spirit, and remember the incredible journey everyone had in Tenerife.
